The Elder one

I still remember those days when my younger brother was a new walking toddler in our joint family. He was like a soft and cute baby doll. From his baby pictures one can easily say that he is the most Innocent person on earth. His round eyes and small mouth made him look even more innocent than the dolls.

He was a fighter at heart.Whenever I used to sit in my mommy's lap he will come and push me to step aside and say " She is my mom" I simply used to step aside and start playing with my toys. At that time I used to think, he is so innocent that he doesn't even know that she belongs to both of us.

So sweet of me.

Now when I think about my thinking process, I wonder that I could also have fought back but I never did. Why was I so kind and understanding at the age of three only?

Years passed by, I used to beat him and used to get beaten by him. We stopped giving blows as we entered teenage and the wars were cold or verbal. Now we debate on politics, philosophy, Countries and Why you didn't wash the dishes?

Though, eventually I wash the dishes because of Karma. I realize that when we used to live with our parents, my mom would work all day and still do the dishes, there was never a fight or argument.Parents work hard for their babies and it is purely out of love.

Being her elder child it was my responsibility to help her , which I seldom used to fulfill and unknowingly the younger one is following my footsteps only.

People say that when a woman becomes a mother, she becomes more clam, kinder, more forgiving and caring.

I truly believe that this law applies to the siblings as well.

I was kinder and elder to forgive, to lead, to guide and to help that baby gifted to me as my younger sibling. That is why, at the age of three I knew he is a baby who doesn't know and I am the elder one who knows well enough to forgive and love instead of fighting back.

Only being born first or being in authority doesn't make someone an elder one. Of course one has the right to respect and obedience from subordinates. But above all, there is the responsibility of leading by example, one should have a bigger heart to love ,bigger understanding to forgive, bigger sense of responsibility and care to nurture the younger ones. All of this will actually make a true Elder One.
